Under the new catchwords of „Pop Surrealism“ and „Urban Art“ and the already famous “Pop Art” the lifestyle of hip cities like Los Angeles, New York, London, Berlin and Tokyo shows its new face.

Since the early nineties the so called Pop Surrealism has established itself as a sub-genre of the “Lowbrow Art” movement and has become the face of a new global media culture that has been rising constantly since the inception of the digital era.

The Lowbrow Art has established itself alongside the well know gallery and museum scene within the California subculture and the megacity subcultures. Influences have come from the tattoo- anime- and comic
scene. This art form is fuelled and inspired by an intensive analysis and discussion about anime, celebrities and the television and movie culture. All have been developing rapidly in over the last 20 years with the digital revolution.

Young and rising artists that are attributed to Pop-Surrealism are Kehinde Wiley, Anarkitty, Ana Bagayan, Prunelle, David LaChapelle, ara McPherson. They are influencing the pop culture in a new way by further developing and adjusting the art created by Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, Richard Lindner and David Hockney. They possess creative minds and funky humour with which they are spot on with the current “Zeitgeist”.

In the United States and Great Britain (Robin) Banksy is already well know and talked about everywhere and Ed Hardy is the supplier of mainstream T-shirt prints. However, there are young and upcoming artists in Germany and Europe too that are active in the Pop-Surrealism, Urban Art and Pop-Art scene and they all have the potential of becoming the new stars of the future exhibiting maybe at the Biennale in Venice, the Documenta in Germany or at the Art Basel in Switzerland.
